DCCCD-Veterans Mental Health Summit 2019 @ H200

DCCCD-Veterans Mental Health Summit 2019 @ H200

The DCCCD Professional Counselors Council and Veterans Council in partnership with the North Texas Veterans Administration Medical Services will host the Veterans Mental Health Summit 2019 at Eastfield College on September 17 and North Lake College on September 20.   The Summit will be open to students, District employees, North Texas VA staff, and interested community members.  The Councils want to increase collaboration with our community partners and better attend to the mental health well-being of Veterans, their families, and military connected individuals.  The Summit will have the same agenda for both locations.  It will begin with a keynote speaker, followed by three talk sessions, and a resource fair.  Participants will receive lunch.

DCCCD Strategic Priorities:

  • Target underserved communities and individuals with outreach strategies aligned with cultural contexts
  • Strengthen the education pipeline through engagement with students as well as through partnerships and with community agencies
  • Remove barriers to participation and persistence

Attendees receive 5 PDUs

Sep 27 @ 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

@ K216
Oct 7 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Employee Training Icon In this presentation, we will discuss the purpose behind Disability Awareness Month, provide examples of the various disabilities students may have, examples of what this looks like in the classroom (along with accommodations we provide), and will go over the do’s and dont’s when working with someone who has a disability. We plan for this to be an open discussion of more than just accommodations in the classroom; we want to discuss disability as a whole in both academia and work settings and answer any questions that the general public may not know.
